Halloween 2026 Near SW Portland: Howloween, Harvest Fest & Family Fun

Halloween 2026 lands on a Saturday, October 31, which means a full weekend of costumes, harvest festivals, and trick-or-treating within easy reach of 1111 SW Coronado St. From a candy-and-costume celebration at the Oregon Zoo to pumpkin patches on Sauvie Island and downtown Lake Oswego's Halloween-season events, here is the confirmed October lineup for families shopping this fall.

Howloween at the Oregon Zoo: Select October Evenings

The Oregon Zoo turns spooky (but gently so) for its annual Howloween celebration on select October evenings. Kids come in costume and follow a candy trail through the zoo grounds, past themed photo spots and family-friendly activities. It sells out most years, so check the Oregon Zoo website for the 2026 dates, ticket times, and entry reservations. It is about a 20-minute drive from the property, and it pairs well with a day exploring the forested southwest hills on the way home.

Fall Fest in the Forest: Saturday, October 17

West Linn's free family celebration at Mary S. Young Park brings mini pumpkins, harvest crafts, trick-or-treating through the trees, and a dog costume contest, all inside a riverside forest setting about 15 minutes from home. It is one of the best low-key Halloween-season events in the area for young kids, with plenty of room to run. Our early-November events guide has the details alongside the first weekend of next month's lineup.

Lake Oswego: Trick-or-Treat Downtown & the Harvest Festival

Downtown Lake Oswego hosts its family-friendly trick-or-treat afternoon on Saturday, October 24, when local shops hand out candy to costumed kids along the historic storefronts. Then Halloween itself, Saturday October 31, brings the city's community Harvest Festival downtown, a block-party style celebration minutes from the property. Both are covered in our Halloween week guide.

Pumpkin Patches & Corn Mazes on Sauvie Island

Sauvie Island's pumpkin patches and corn mazes run through October 31, which means a full month of hayrides, u-pick pumpkins, and maze afternoons before the big night. Many farms add family Halloween weekends with bonfires and hot cider in late October. It is a beloved Portland tradition, roughly 30 to 40 minutes from SW Portland, and the classic kickoff to the season. Our Halloween-week guide covers the season's lineup near SW Portland.

A Great Setting for Halloween at Home

Of course, one of the best things about fall here is the setting itself. The bright orange front door at 1111 SW Coronado St was made for a carved pumpkin on the porch, and the winding driveway and trailing footpaths through the trees create a charming, old-fashioned trick-or-treat route for visiting ghosts and goblins. The covered back deck is a warm, dry spot to hand out candy while the canopy turns gold around you, and the terraced garden beds make a natural spot for a display of pumpkins and autumn squash.
